Esperanto-English dictionary 63,380 Entries Esperanto is the most widely spoken constructed international auxiliary language. Its name derives from Doktoro Esperanto (Esperanto translates as 'one who hopes'), the pseudonym under which L. L. Zamenhof published the first book detailing Esperanto, the Unua Libro, in 1887. Zamenhof's goal was to create an easy-to-learn and politically neutral language that transcends nationality and would foster peace and international understanding between people with different regional and/or national languages - wikipedia.org

I understand the criticisms--lack of page numbers, scholarly apparatus, even a preface. But in the end, so what? This is the most comprehensive dictionary of its kind, with compound words one doesn't find elsewhere. It's absolutely no frills, but it is my first go-to source when I'm reading a complex Esperanto text.

I am glad that the "search inside" feature allows potential buyers to see what the editor has done with the source files for this dictionary. The answer practically nothing. The margins are astonishingly narrow--there are no guide words in the header--there aren't even any page numbers! Seriously, no care whatsoever was taken to make this even look like a dictionary. At $15.77 it might seem like a bargain, but the poor design and non-existent typography even that price is too high.

A better edition is available in hardcover Esperanto-English Dictionary Esperanta-Angla Vortaro (Esperanto Edition) and in paperback. Esperanto-English Dictionary Esperanta-Angla Vortaro (Esperanto Edition)
